Delta Network Services Creates NEW OCC Scholarship for IT Students

A new college scholarship, given by Delta Network Services, has been established to support OCC students looking to surpass their educational goals. OCC Faculty Honored with Stanford University Teaching Initiative

At Stanford University, incoming students are given an opportunity to formally acknowledge an educator who played a significant role in their intellectual, academic and personal development. Looking across the country nearly 2500 miles back to Auburn Hills, Michigan, former Oakland Community College (OCC) student Matthew James Riley chose to acknowledge faculty member Dr. Edward Stotts. Oakland Community College Names New Chancellor

Oakland Community College announces the appointment of Peter Provenzano to the position of Chancellor. Provenzano joined Oakland Community College in 2014 as Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services and a key member of the College's executive leadership team. Since May 2017, Provenzano has served as the Interim Chancellor. The Board of Trustees voted unanimously in favor of Provenzano as successor in the position of Chancellor.

OCC Board Accepts, Approves FY 2017 Audit

At Oakland Community College's November Board of Trustees meeting, officials were presented with the College's Fiscal Year 2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) by independent auditing firm Plante Moran. Firm Partner Dana Coomes, CPA, stated OCC was awarded, "an 'unmodified' opinion with no findings, which illustrates strong internal controls and meets all federal grant criteria." The independent team commended the College and Board audit committee for their excellence in fiscal oversight, noting the size and scope of operations, student financial aid regulations and grant funding regulations unique to higher education.

OCC Culinary Students Compete in Kontos Foods Challenge

On November 15, Students in the OCC Culinary Studies Program faced off in a "Chopped"-style contest to create tasty and original recipes for both sweet and savory dishes using the secret ingredient - pastry puffs. Top winners were awarded $250 Visa gift cards.

OCC Honor Students Join 'Up to Us'

This past month brought new opportunities for scholastic achievement for these OCC student leaders, as they devoted a the month of November to fun and dynamic educational activities at the Auburn Hills campus centered on raising awareness about the increasing national debt. Advanced Manufacturing Students Strut Their Skills

Student apprentices who are graduating from the competitive Michigan Advanced Technician Training (MAT2) program will demonstrate their high-tech mastery of automated equipment by completing projects in front of live audiences during events in February and March at Oakland Community College and Henry Ford College.

Inaugural "Our College Cares for Oakland County Charities" Crosses 5K Finish LIne in Distance and Donations

What started as a simple 5K run/walk for students, faculty and staff ended at the finish line with over 5,000 items donated to six local charities. The winners: Orchard Children's Services, Lighthouse of Oakland County, Gleaners Food Bank, the Michigan Humane Society, National Council of Jewish Women and Sweet Dreamzzz - and, of course, the more than 260 participants in the first-time event.
